A/N: Yes it has OC ponies. Yes its OC/Char shipping. I just did it because I felt like it and too much lesbian fics are everywhere. Don't get me wrong, I like em but there too damn much. And if you hate OCs, that's your problem and not mine. I don't care so shut up and GTFO and don't complain. I don't want to be restricted from what I do best.
This week marked the special event of the Lunar Festival. It was mid July and Princess Luna was tasked to bring up the moon for this special occasion. It was said the moon would be twice as close to the land then it originally was, and everypony would be up to see it. At first, she thought it would make her happy. But she remembered how far she had fallen because of so many who had overlooked the night's natural beauty. So they say in the books.
She was in her personal chambers, sighing to herself as she stared at the calendar. Monday, the start of the Lunar Festival event; she felt very uneasy. Even from words of encouragement from her sister wasn't enough to ease her uneasiness.
The young purple alicorn turned around as she curled the sheets of her bed over her. The morning brought such ill will to her in her bad mood. Before she was about to fall asleep; one of her personal guards assigned by Princess Celestia, came into the room without making a hint of warning.
"Princess Luna?" said the young tall Pegasus guard.
Luna gasped and jumped, frightened by the guard who covertly entered her chambers. She fell to the floor, shaking her head as she huffs. She looked up to see the guard was none other than High Five, or Five and even Fie by friends.
"Guard; what have I told you all about KNOCKING?" she said with a grunt.
Five shuddered a bit, but bowed his head in respect and apologized over and over again. She sighed and decided to dismiss it, figuring he didn't know as much.
"Fret not than
What is it that you want
The guard stood back up, now in full confidence. He was like any other guard, except he had a shade of red mane and tail than his fellow comrades. Five's cutiemark, if it was visible without the armor, was a winged shape number 5. Each of the numbered pony guards was actually ranked and Five was ranked as a personal guard. Luna didn't appreciate much closure of personal staff around her, yet her sister insisted on it.
"Five. High Five; and please don't laugh your highness. Forgive me for that but I hadn't been having the best of days myself today. And right now, your sister Princess Celestia wanted to speak with you about this week." The guard responded.
Luna sighed and nods her head, standing up now. She was about to make her bed until Five trotted over and grabbed the bed.
"N-no no your highness, please let me. I'll take care of this while you visit your sister."
Luna wasn't sure if she should be irritable or grateful. Granted, he was doing this out of kindness. But for Luna, she didn't know if the Pegasus guard was doing this out of pure fear of her powers or her past.
"You do not need to High Five. I could had handle it with ease, given my magic abilities you know." She said as she walked out.
Five looked back as Luna walked out of the room. He wasn't sure how, but he wanted to speak. He wanted to know if Luna really was heading to the festival at all. He heard talk from the guards that there will be parties, balls and activities the whole week. Five figured he could draw Luna in and maybe, just dance with her. His emotions were all bottled up, mixed with both nervousness and warmth. With Princess Luna's return he couldn't help but notice her every passing day. He could have asked her to have fun with him on that night, fool around, make friends and play games. Alas, she is gone again and he had missed his chance
again. Maybe he could get another chance today if he spots her.
As the guard pony continued to make her bed, Luna made way to the royal hall. She passed several other guard ponies who seemed to just avoid her rather than acknowledge her. She sighed and shook her head, looking down at the floor. Princess Celestia was at her usual spot, greeting royal subjects until she spotted Luna coming from the hallway. She dismissed them and steps down, heading to greet her sister. She still had that same continuous fun loving smile. That smile she kept on her face even in the most dire of situations and gives her faithful student and her friends a hint of hope. Now she wants to give that same feeling to Luna.
"Little Sister; I am so glad to see you!" said the white alicorn sister. Luna looked up and blushed a bit, smiling as her sister greeted her with such warmth.
um C-Celestia, is there something you wanted?" asked the smiling young ali.
As a matter of fact, yes. There is something important I wanted to talk to you about."
Right away, Luna's first guess was going to be the festival.
"It's about the Lunar Festival isn't it?" she asked.
"Technically, yes and no; but Luna what I really wanted to talk to you about is what you will be doing for the week. You see, I know how you always tried to make your best and look your best for every pony. So you will not just be rising and setting the moon."
Luna made a puzzled look, tilting her head to the side as she looked up at her big sister.
"What do you mean sister?" she asked.
"I mean, I want you to have fun. I want you to make friends. So every night when it's time for the moon to rise, I want you to have a good time. Meet some of the young fillies and colts maybe. Anyone at all would do. And I also want you to have fun and make the best night not just for this week, but for yourself. I mean after all, you are the princess of the night after all." said Celestia with a wink.
Luna blushed, feeling so modest yet so happy. Her sister surely trying her best to make things work for Luna, even after the Gala to make sure Luna felt home and comfortable. It was slightly warming up.
if you want
Then I'll try than sis." She said nuzzling her sister.
The two chuckle and hugged with their wings. The guards didn't at least budge an inch despite the touching scene. If there was any hidden emotion in their expressionless faces, it would be happiness. Even Philomena made a smile if it was possible with her beak.
The two broke apart and smiled at each other.
"That's good. Now, can you take care of Philomena for me for a while? I have to be somewhere on an important assignment leading me to London Equine. Can you handle things here with her, and if you can with the guards?"
Luna looked at the guards and the phoenix as their gaze slightly met Luna's. That same unreadable expression in the guards made Luna a bit nervous. But with Philomena, the phoenix swooped over and lands next to Luna and nuzzled her leg. The princess was at least somewhat confidant. She looked up at Celestia and nods.
I will do my best sis." She said.
Celestia smiled and chuckles, giving Luna a pat on the head with her feathered wing.
"That's good to hear. I have complete and total confidence in you. And if you ever need anything of importance, you can speak with the head of the guard."
As soon as she mentioned him, a slightly taller Pegasus guard came in the hall. The guards stood at attention as the silvery colored pony made his way down the hall. His mane was more like sapphire, his tail long with a deep shade of blue. He wore no armor like the other guards, but kept his special helmet for good measures. His cutie mark was a number 1 with wings attached.
"Anyways Luna, this is captain Uno. He heads the royal guard garrison and is my closest friend. He's also somewhat my personal adviser at that." The princess explained.
The captain known as Uno bowed his head as low as he can, kneeling to go with it.
"I always wish to serve. Even to a relative of your highness." He said.
Luna smiled warmed, bowing back in the same manner.
"I thank you sir Uno. I will be glad to come to you whenever I have something of importance."
The guard nods, heading back out in the same direction he came. Celestia smirked and chuckled to herself.
"He's always a pony of small words." she whispered to Luna.
As the day went by, Luna was in her same bedchambers. Celestia had already taken leave and all that's left was what Celestia provided for her. The lunar princess looked around the room, curious and bored as to what she should do to pass time. Philomena, the phoenix had already gotten tired and fell asleep without much of a fuss. There was certainly nothing to do today. Even Philomena who was always active and mischievous couldn't find ways to pass up time.
Time to time, Luna's personal guard Five would come in now and then. The Modest guard always apologizing as he came into the room and grab hold of her things as he tidies up the room. Luna sighed and shook her head, jumping down from her bed and over to the guard pony.
"Excuse me, High Five is it? I just want to know something." She spoke up.
Five jumped in excitement and turned around, facing the alicorn princess.
"Y-yes your highness?" he responded.
Luna observed the uneasy modest guard as she stood in front of him. His eyes shriveled and shrunk, feeling worried that he might have done something wrong.
"Tell me, have
have you or any other guard expressed unwonted uneasy feelings towards me?" she started.
"I mean, since my return. Have you all been, intimidated or fearful of me?"
Five blinked, trapped in a moment of silence. Was that why she asked that question? Maybe that was why she gotten a bit edgy in the morning? He coughed and shook his head, turning it away.
n-no your highness; e-everyone here are r-rather welcoming your return. It's
Luna leaned over, narrowing her eyes a bit as she looked at the blushing nervous pony.
is there something wrong that YOU wish to say High Five?"
The pony gulped, backing up a bit as he continues to turn his face away to escape Luna's gaze.
n-nothing it's nothing! I w-was just h-honored to be serving under you."
Luna's ridge of her brows narrowed downward. She knew he wasn't telling the whole truth. Something was up with this particular guard. With one final excuse, Five blurted out.
"I just always admired the light! T-the moonlight that is; you magnificently bring the beauty of the night every evening of every day! I just
can't really explain it but I never seen such magnificent beauty in my life. F-from you
Luna was flattered by the guard. However, she seems to take it the wrong way and thought Five was admiring the night and moon that she brought forth to Equestria. She smiles, looking up and past her glass ceiling that hung over her room. Her wings slightly flapped in appreciation as she nudges Five.
"Was that all? Oh Five, thank you so much. I never heard such a pony having such admiration for the night. And if you were worried about upsetting me at all don't worry about it." She said as she pulled back.
Five blushed, slightly confused as Luna nudged and responded to the indirect compliment. He chuckled and just smiled, letting it flowed as she looked up still. Maybe it would be too soon to say anything to her really. Anything regarding to his personal feelings would probably cause uncertainty. At least Luna was grateful for him. At the least, maybe she warmed up a bit and so had he.
"Y-yes that was all. T-the night that is
I will take my leave if you have no further need of me."
Luna chuckled and walked over to her closet. It looked as if she was now getting ready and possibly heading out.
"No that is all. Thank you High Five. But I will call on you or any other for anything else I have in mind."
And with that, Five had already left the room. Looking back one last time, he smiled and jumped up a bit. He was rather excited and happy. Finally getting the chance to talk with Luna without any unfortunate twists and turns brightened his mood. He trotted down the halls as happy as he is.
Back in the bedroom, Luna was trying on several different outfits. None of which seem to suit her. She sighed and tossed each one of them out onto the bed until she came upon a beautiful dark shade of purple. An outfit streamed with layers and gems, each glistened and shined with a shade of red. A silver Tiara and the same necklace she wore the day of her return hung from the rack. With her magical horn, she pulled out the garment with ease and laid them neatly on the bed. The rest she hung back up in the closet. If anything, she should take it to the most fashionable pony Rarity. Luna has been hearing lots of good things about that pony; especially from Hoity Toity's excellent criticism on her dresses that influenced the pony girls to wear them to the Gala. Too bad the Gala wasn't what they were expecting, which is why Luna also stayed inside because of the blandness she and her sister always experienced. But tonight would be different; hanging out with the commoner ponies and joining in on the fun and adventures that they all experience. Maybe her wish to adapting to her new life in Equestria might come true after all. And with Philomena by her side, maybe she might have no trouble at all.
As Luna was preparing her appearance for the first night, the guards were preparing themselves as well. Most of the afternoon shift reverted to their living quarters, along with Five who still continued to day dream about Princess Luna. His armor, now completely off, showed his now loose red mane. The white guard Pegasus didn't have hair of that of 'prince charming' but it very well affected the guards. Sometimes with more than positive results; some of which he didn't really welcome with open arms. However, he doesn't mind them and in fact he was rather flattered.
Than from the other side of the room came the head captain Uno. The tough tall guard Pegasus proudly strolled down each corridor as every guard snap at attention. Five hesitated a bit, still distracted by Luna until he regained himself. Unfortunately Uno caught whiff of that and walked over to Five.
"High Five: personal guard of Princess Luna; am I correct?" he asked.
Five nodded nervously, gulping slightly at the fierceness in his eyes. The bark can be worse than his bite, or in this case his expression. But the tone of the guard pony was soft and calm, cool and collected.
"Yes, that is I Captain Uno." He responded.
The captain didn't change his expression and continued to stare down at the nervous Pegasus. The other guards oohed quietly as they watched.
Are you, somewhat distracted young guard? It's been more than a year since your arrival, yet you should have the qualities of an elite guard. Especially a personal guard for the princess of the night; it is rather uncomforting and suspicious to see you like this."
Five gulped, still silent and nervous. His legs shook and his hooves trembled, ready to break way. At first he expected to hear a loud barking lecture from the captain, but met with a calming tone.
"It is imperative we stay on our front hooves at all time. And I expect the same from you Five, even if you are not a true royal guard."
That felt more like an insult than a lecture. Five never got the same training as the other guard ponies did. In fact, despite personal guards being special and hand selected by the princesses, they weren't on higher grounds with the guards. The personals have to answer to their princesses more than their Captain, and only rarely have they allowed the Captain to order the Personal Guards. Yet, he is not the only personal guard that would act like this but Uno didn't care nor mind.
I am sorry Captain. I won't let it happen again." He responded.
"Don't say it to me, say it to the princess next time she calls upon you. If you ever so much as falter or worse; you might be reinstated and your cutiemark forcibly removed."
Five never knew a cutiemark could be removed. Had Celestia ever approved of this or was it a guard thing? Sure the guard Pegasus' never got their cutiemarks ordinarily like most ponies. But never would he had thought they be removed; and by what measure.
I p-promise captain it will never happen again. B-but that wasn't what I
Before he even finished, the Captain walked off with a shout.
"Alright; now everyone get to bed. I want you all bright eye and bushy tail for tomorrow. If any of you are planning to attend the first day of the festival go ahead, but remember your duties!"
The guards called out in affirmative 'sir!' before they head into their beds. Five looked out of his quarters at the Captain and back at his cot. Maybe he should head to bed so he doesn't incur the Captain's anger. But he had one final task to do.
A few hours passed and the sun was beginning to set. Now would be the time when Luna would leave for the Festival. He waited outside her chambers and guarded it as she dressed up. He tried his best to act like a guard, but it was just too difficult for Five to try. He fidgets and squirms as he tries to balance himself. The muscles on his body continued to sway in motion, from left to right.
He sighed to himself as he looks into the room, watching Luna as she pranced around excitedly, furnishing her room and her dress. If only he could just speak up. She could even be his friend even if she didn't accept the same feelings he felt. Nervousness continued to cloud the Pegasus's thoughts until the Captain appeared behind him. Whatever he was doing out here today was unknown.
"Staying up late I see, eh Five?" he asked.
High Five turned his head around, almost jumping at the sight of him. Right away, he began his usual tremble from the sight of Uno. He stood at attention, head held up high as he responded.
"S-sir yes sir!" he said.
Uno chuckled and circled Five, observing the Pegasus guard with interest.
"That's good. What is this, something you wanted to do after that little lecture I gave out to you?"
Five was silent, afraid his answer might irritate Uno.
"I do apologize for that. Sometimes, being a guard has its cons. Always on duty, always ordering the others and gathering reports from each one with little to no time whatsoever to myself. I couldn't even get together with my long time friend Celestia." He said.
Five's gave never left Uno despite staying in his place. He continued to stay silent as he nervously observed the guard captain.
"At first, I wanted to be a personal guard too. I always wanted to be with my friend as much as I can. But I was chosen to be head of the royal guard thanks to Celestia. I knew it wasn't what I wanted but I was happy regardless."
He stood next to Five, his Cutiemark in a visible position. Five looked down at it curiously.
is what why we are all numbered? Because we were chosen by Celestia?" he asked.
"You are correct. I know it's not really my place to say what I said back there, but we all must respect our duties as it is given to us. Just as how you were given the position to guard Princess Luna; we all have to respect our duties."
Five looked back into the bed chambers at Luna. A small smile appeared on his face as he turns back to Uno.
as a matter of fact, I like my position and respect it well. I'd be glad to serve under Princess Luna whenever she calls for me."
Uno's smile faded away as he looked at Five.
she is always kind. She's so much different than what the old stories tell of her. The way she flies and how she raises the moon, her graceful appearance amongst the night. It was such a wonderful sight. The night that is
I always look up before I fall asleep."
Uno closed his eyes, shaking his head as he stands up. The pony began to walk off before stopping and looking back at Five.
"Stop being so subtle, it's not working. I know that look, and I know what that look means. I had that same look in my youth. And I will tell you this now before you hurt yourself. She's a thousand years apart from you by age. She continues to stay young while you will grow old. Neither of the sisters would share the same feelings. Celestia had experienced this in the past and lost it all, which is why they stay alone and apart from most males and only just friends. Like me and Celestia. Second, you are a guard. Special or not you should not experience these feelings whatsoever. You should act like a guard and do your duty. Do not make any gestures or moves towards any pony. Either Luna or those in Ponyville; it's for your own good."
Uno left, without speaking another word. Neither did Five who was crushed and broken. Would this really happen to him? Does he really have to reject any feelings he has? Would he ever experience these again? The words repeated over and over again as Five stared into the now empty hall as Uno disappeared. He looked in the bed chambers, looking at Luna one last time as he walked off towards his chambers. He didn't say a word.
